The Nonprofit Center has developed a suite of Leadership Development Programs for High Performing Boards…Transforming the Nonprofit Sector One Board At A Time

High-Intensity Board Leadership Development Experience – Full Day Program for the Committed Board Member
A full-day immersion into the roles, responsibilities, liabilities, and rewards, our full-day program is the definitive path to high impact, meaningful board membership. Our “blue chip” program is for existing boards or individuals who are truly serious about excellence in board service and those organizations committed to professional nonprofit board development.  Ideal for:

  • individuals considering joining a board to fulfill their interest in community service
  • current board members with less than two years’ experience
  • longer-serving board members who want a formal reminder of best practices
  • civic-minded corporations that value community service by their employees

This program is also offered as a customized on-site group training, as the consummate orientation for a nonprofit board, or for savvy businesses with personnel being groomed for leadership roles (see below).

Best Practices in Board Governance - MEMBERPLUS BENEFIT
You can take a giant leap forward for free by joining The Nonprofit Center at the MemberPlus level, which entitles you to an approximately 2.5 hour on-site “Best Practices in Board Governance:  Achieving Board Excellence through Best Practices” presentation by one of our governance experts.  This session gives insight into effectively performing the roles and responsibilities of board members, including legal liability, strategic planning, financial management, chief executive assessment and organizational performance evaluation.  Any board committed to excellence, as well as those beginning a major undertaking such as strategic planning or a fundraising campaign, will be more effective as a result of this presentation.  For MemberPlus members who renew their membership, we offer advanced trainings in fundraising, board recruitment and retention, finances, succession planning, and more, building on the skills you’ve already acquired.

“The Board raved about the program.  They seem truly grateful for the guidance and kind of shocked that they have underplayed their roles for such a long time.  We are at a tipping point to become a more sustainable organization and hopefully this training will be the push in the right direction.”
-Kim Andrews, Executive Director, Friends of the Japanese House and Garden

Customized On-site Corporate Board Leadership Programs
Fulfilling a commitment to corporate social responsibility involves training leaders within your company to serve your community representing your business, your image and your philosophy to the outside world. This program, tailored to your corporate goals and mission, prepares this core of current and future leaders to bring the same high standards of professionalism that they do to their work to the nonprofit organizations they serve on your behalf.

“PECO has utilized The Nonprofit Center’s leadership development program for four years. They’ve done a wonderful job of working with PECO officers to prepare them to be effective board members and to ask the right questions. The program is so popular that we have created a “Board 201” for the “101” grads who want to come back to discuss their current issues and challenges in their board service.”
-Jeff Gordon, PECO Manager of Corporate Relations
