The Pottstown Area Health & Wellness Foundation Joins with
La Salle Nonprofit Center to Launch Pilot Capacity-Building Program
for Pottstown Area Nonprofit Organizations
(Pottstown, January 8, 2008) -- The Pottstown Area Health & Wellness Foundation is collaborating with The Nonprofit Center at La Salle University, to offer a series of programs to local nonprofits to help strengthen themselves, build their internal capacity and develop and support their leaders.
The pilot program, which is open to all nonprofits serving the tri-county region surrounding Pottstown, includes a unique peer learning circle for nonprofit executive directors, a specialized leadership training for their boards of directors, and four educational programs on fundraising, strategic planning, media relations, and outcomes measurement.
“As a Foundation dedicated to improving the health of its community, we are delighted to partner with The Nonprofit Center to bring these valuable programs to Pottstown area nonprofits,” said Dave Kraybill, Foundation executive director. “We believe so strongly in the importance of capacity-building for these organizations that the Foundation is providing a 50 percent subsidy to all its grantees to participate in any or all of the programs,” he added.
The content of the programs was determined through a series of surveys and focus groups of community organizations that identified needs and interests that will help strengthen these agencies to better serve their constituents.
All of the educational programs will be presented at Montgomery County Community College’s West Campus in Pottstown, between February and August 2008. Each training session for board members will be presented onsite at the nonprofit organization and the nine-month long executive director’s learning circle, will be hosted by the Pottstown Foundation.
In addition to support from the Foundation, the project is endorsed by the TriCounty Community Network, United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania, and the TriCounty Chamber of Commerce.
“We are united in our commitment to increasing the capacity and professionalism of our nonprofit sector, and these programs provide a strong foundation for that goal,” Kraybill said. “By supporting nonprofit leaders and their staffs and enabling them to enhance their skills, we know that we are better preparing them for the increasing challenges presented by their clients and constituents,” he added.
The schedule for the four educational programs is:
• 2/29/08 – How Do You Know You are Making a Difference: Defining and Measuring Impact
• 3/14/08 – Asking for Major Gifts
• 4/11/08 – Strategic Planning: How to Do It and How to Use It
• 5/9/08 – How to Get Your Message Out to the Media and Beyond
