Leadership Development Series for Executive Directors of Nonproift Organizations Launched by Nonprofit Center at La Salle University

Introducing Executive Director University for leaders of nonprofit organizations

Philadelphia, PA -- February 12, 2008 -- Executive directors of nonprofit organizations may be the loneliest people in the world. They feel responsible for their organizations along with fates of their employees and constituents, as they toil under multiple demands with limited resources.

The Nonprofit Center at La Salle University created Executive Director University (EDU) in recognition of the special support and expertise that the unique position of nonprofit staff leader requires. EDU consists of a series of educational programs designed to address both the personal and professional needs and challenges of individuals at that level in their careers.

Beginning in March 2008, The Nonprofit Center will offer 11 programs designed for, and solely available to, executive directors of nonprofit organizations. Additional programs invite staff leaders to join with nonprofit board members in leadership seminars that impact both sides of an organization’s leadership equation to foster better understanding and cooperation.

In addition to the professionally-led three-hour presentations, The Nonprofit Center offers additional programs that support executives, including CLEAR Circles, which are peer-directed, confidential learning circles that meet monthly and certificate programs that are non-degreed, in-depth learning concentrations in nonprofit management.
“Our research with our clients indicates that nonprofit executive directors are seeking leadership development aimed at their level and experience,” said Laura Otten, Ph.D., director of The Nonprofit Center. “These new seminars were developed to address the concerns and learning goals they’ve identified for us, both professional and personal,” she added.

Among the topics are stress management, securing their own financial future, personal career development, the art of self-assessment, managing diversity in the workplace, the executive’s role in marketing and fundraising, board development, assessing the business model, financial management, and succession planning.
The first season of EDU will run from March to November 2008 with sessions running in various locations in center city Philadelphia.
