Nonprofit University: First Blog on the Business of Nonprofits Launched by Philadelphia’s Nonprofit Center at
La Salle University

(Philadelphia, PA, January 18, 2008) – Nonprofit University, a blog for the business of nonprofits, has been launched by The Nonprofit Center at La Salle University. It is online at www.nonprofituniversityblog.org/.
Written by Laura Otten, Ph.D., a leading expert in leadership, organizational management, and governance of nonprofit organizations, the blog will share Otten’s insights, along with news, opinions and information about the nonprofit sector.
Otten is director of The Nonprofit Center, which helps strengthen nonprofit organizations throughout the Greater Philadelphia region so they can better serve their constituents. Through educational programs, board development, training and consulting services and an information and referral network, the Center’s team of experts works with thousands of organizations to enhance their ability to govern, manage and perform more effectively in a competitive environment.
“I’m not shy about giving my opinions about nonprofits – what’s good about them and what we should be improving,” Otten said, “So after more than two decades of being asked my opinion, I figured it was time to put it out there in a public forum where people can react and respond.”
Nonprofit University’s first blog entry deals with a recent study that showed that people are more charitable when directly confronted with their own mortality and segues into a discussion of why people choose to work for nonprofit organizations.
